Gate Studio — instant gate-placement preview

Gate Studio

Find a better gate in seconds, not minutes.

  • Place a gate on your part and instantly see how the cavity fills — the familiar blue-to-red fill map updates in a fraction of a second, instead of waiting on a full simulation.
  • See where weld lines are likely to form (where two flow fronts meet) as you move the gate, so you can catch cosmetic and strength risks early.
  • Add several gates, fine-tune any gate's position and watch the fill rebalance live, or let Gate Studio suggest a well-balanced next gate for you.
  • Starts from the gates you've already placed, so you're always tweaking your real layout — and your quote is never affected until you decide.
  • Works for both injection molding and high-pressure die casting.

It's a fast preview to guide your gate decisions — confirm the final layout with the full fill analysis before you quote.

June 8 – June 14, 2026

Enabling AI agentic workflow

  • A new AI assistant works alongside the 3D model — ask it to run analyses, set up your quote, and explain the numbers in plain language.
  • It plans, acts, and checks its own work: it can run fill, draft, thickness, undercut, sharp-corner, and cross-section analyses, then walk you through what it found.
  • Ask for a should-cost or tooling quote and get an answer in your selected currency, with the cost drivers and a sensitivity view of what moves the price most.
  • Suggests DFM fixes for the issues it spots, and can adjust fill inputs and other settings for you on request.
  • Available to everyone — no beta sign-up — and you can try it in guest mode on a sample part before creating an account.

Costing

  • HPDC costing overhauled — trim-die tooling, scaled cycle stages, shot build-up, and clearer cell rates for more realistic quotes.
  • New HPDC post-casting section covers treatments, machining, and inspection, so finished-part quotes reflect the full process.
  • HPDC die machining now estimates hours from your part's actual features, with a "View plan" breakdown.
  • IM costing refined — unified material cost, regrind credit for reused material, and steadier results when machine tonnage isn't set.
  • Die-base sizing and surface-finish suggestions now stay consistent across injection molding and HPDC.
  • Plate-stack costs are clearer to read and edit.

Analysis & materials

  • Inspect any cross-section of your part and read its key dimensions directly.
  • 18 new base material families added, plus refined glass-filled profiles, so more of your real materials are covered out of the box.
  • More accurate wall-thickness analysis, with added material and uniformity checks.
  • Better feature detection — cleaner undercut counts, sharp corners that don't depend on model resolution, and hollow/cored bosses surfaced.
  • Cycle-time results are now collapsible for a tidier view.

Fixes

  • The dashboard now shows a clear reason when analysis can't complete, instead of spinning indefinitely.
  • 2D files with no volume are flagged up front.
  • Part manufacturing cost displays and hovers corrected.

May 25 – May 31, 2026

  • Tool Life Estimator (IM) — predicts how many shots your mold will last and what's driving the wear.
  • Die-life advisor (HPDC) — quick estimate of how die life shifts with cycle and material choices.
  • Cost insights tab now available for HPDC, with scenario compare and per-feature cost drivers.
  • Monthly quantity is the new default, with refreshed monthly projection visuals.
  • Redesigned annual and total production cost roll-ups, with mold count shown on the cost summary.
  • New Shipments & Packaging section groups packaging, fixture handling, and transport.
  • Per-part fixture handling adder (IM) with inline cost explanations.
  • Editable plate-stack costs for finer control over mold assembly.
  • Faster thumbnail loading, sharper IM watch-out callouts, and regional lead-time + transit shown alongside cost.

May 18 – May 24, 2026

  • EUR added as a native currency — all tooling and part costs (IM & HPDC) are now quoted in EUR with independent rates, no conversion from USD.

May 11 – May 17, 2026

  • Regional cost preview (early access) — part cost across the USA, India, China, Germany, and Japan with live FX, regional labor/overhead, and source citations. Exports to the workbook.
  • Cost insights tab (early access) — scenario compare with per-feature cost drivers and FAQs explaining each one.
  • Mold model rebuilt — mold machining hours now scale with tool-steel hardness.
  • Non-point gates (fan, film, tab) seed with the right footprint, and the gate you pick now drives fill, sink-mark risk, and cycle time.
  • DFM thresholds for spacing, undercut, density, gate distance, and porosity are now adjustable live from the feature legend.
  • Cooling-channel preview for injection molding.
  • Machine-hours tool for quick standalone cycle-time lookups.
  • Bill-of-process inputs auto-populate from detected features.
  • Guest mode now covers the costing-settings step on a sample part.
  • HPDC cost sheet — refreshed export layout and a clearer cost-optimisation breakdown.
  • Pricing page reordered with a clearer recommended tier; "Your Process" option renamed to "Costing without DFM".
  • Fixes: wall-thickness analysis no longer hangs on intricate parts; the costing page no longer freezes after a tab sits idle; large-CAD uploads show accurate progress on slow connections.

May 4 – May 10, 2026

  • New RFQ template import — upload your existing pricing spreadsheets and the app reads them, suggests values for each costing field, and lets you review and apply them to your settings in one pass.
  • Settings page redesigned with a single, flexible layout that adapts to each manufacturing process, so editing values is faster and easier to scan.
  • Confirmation step added before deleting an RFQ project, with a clear count of the files about to be removed so accidental clicks don't lose work.
  • Draft angle heatmap legend now has a live threshold slider — adjust the minimum draft on the fly and the colored regions update instantly, so you can see exactly which faces fall short of your spec without re-running analysis.
  • HPDC costing tightened — base-plate sizing, refined mold thickness and trim allowances, and a part-complexity score in the exported cost sheet, with a redundant feature row removed for cleaner quotes.
  • Machining-hour estimates now factor in detected part features and side-action inputs for every machining process, so quotes track real part geometry instead of a flat assumption.
  • Smarter gating for HPDC analysis — gate count and placement adapt to part shape, multi-body parts get separate gates automatically, and progress messages are clearer while the simulation runs.
  • Gate setup dialog redesigned for clarity, and the cost-optimisation panel now opens cleanly above the 3D model view.
  • Guest mode adds parting-line setup, so prospective users can explore more of the DFM flow on a sample part before creating an account.
  • "Try with our 3D model" demo on the homepage has clearer wording and now works correctly after signing in, and projects load more reliably on first open.
